During the last few weeks, the children have been interested in watching the activity on the swan plant outside. They have seen and remembered that the caterpillars eat and grow and then turn into butterflies. We have had lots of discussions about other animals that change form and whether we would be able to see these happening in our classroom. Fletcher and Madeleine R thought that it would be a good idea to have tadpoles which we could then watch change form. Margaret and I had a discussion about this and thought that it would be a good idea to source out what we would need to house tadpoles which we then proposed to the children at a mat time. Since the initial proposal to the children, there has been nonstop chatter about tadpoles, frogs and how they live. We have explored tadpoles through drawing, writing and paper mache so far - we can't wait to continue to explore this topic further!
