Squishy bags on the table

Recently in Nursery 1, we have noticed the children's interest in sensory play. They like to sit and feel the textures around them such as scratching the pillows, squishing toys in their hands, and carrying around the textured material rubbing it in their fingers. Isaac found a soft toy, but by rubbing his hands on it, discovered the prickly texture of the velcro.

We decided to extend on this interest by providing an activity for them to touch. We made some sensory bags, one filled with cellophane, one filled with paint, one filled with flour and one filled with play dough.

This activity offers a great therapeutic/calming effect for some children and can be a sensory activity just for the sake of sensory.
