The children in Preschool one have been interested in the garden, while the children sleep, we do a curriculum focus time with the older children, focusing on the seven main curriculum areas. When literacy came around, I thought it would be a good idea for the children to narrate their own story. It started off with just a pen and a piece of paper, and Anita, Amelia and Daniel saying a few words each that linked into what the person before them had said. It wasn't long until we had our story, which we then typed up, re read and corrected anything that wasn't quite right. We decided that instead of just doing a book for the room, they would quite like to do one to take home too. They set hard at work, illustrating their book to take home, as well as illustrating alternate pages for the book to stay in Preschool one. The books were then laminated and bound before being sent home and read at mat time for all of the children to hear! Anita, Amelia and Daniel were very proud of themselves and it was great to share this writing experience with them.
